Neurotoxic shock treatment of the Plankster

Featuring:

Optimo have remixed All Repro from Moebius,Plank,Neumeier’s Zero Set.

I’ll give you a bit of a rest to contain your excitement.

Take a deep breath and count to eleven.

Ready now?

Then I’ll begin.

Betty Botox presents Kraut was an obvious for us at xxjfg. It’s like our very own Christmas present or something, some of our favorite djs remix some of our favorite bands, Wu Yay!

When you go about making something sound/look up to date for the time it always instantly dates it. Technology just moves so fast Pixar looks like Ray Harryhausen tomorrow (ok, maybe not as good as Ray), same with music.

DFA said this thing about working with Liquid Liquid that they didn’t want to be the ones hated by millions for putting an acid bass line on Liquid Liquid. I know what they mean (see Sacrilege, which now sounds so dated).

Optimo have no such fear, and let’s face it many acid bass lines have been inspired by Plank’s repetitive sound techniques over the years, so following this years sourkraut mix Optimo put on there web site, they take the plunge, and re-edit some of there superheroes. I’m not sure if all the Optimo guys are involved, but I hear it is at least Twitch.

Betty Botox – Conny

Betty Botox find the optimum space available in All Repro and inject neurotoxins in small quantities. Instead of pacifying the unorthodox spasms of this timeless beauty it extenuates them. Botox with artificial selective intelligence, I like it! They don’t try and make it trendy or now, which is great.

I have a theory they actually got Moebius, Plank and Neumeier back in the studio together under hypnosis to believe they were recording this track for the first time. This is not a re-mix which stamps another artists style onto the original, but like the Can re-masters simply brings out the wonderfully obtuse nature of the beast that is All Repro with the care and love of a gifted restorer.

I know it’s wrong to interfere with the time line, cos you end up with your mum fancying you instead of your dad and stuff (so who wrote johnny b goode then? I’m really confused) but modern production techniques when used by the right people can make old songs sound better to dance to through our new fangled amplification systems than the crackly overplayed original black stuff. Optimo are so the right people and played next to any modern production this sounds lethal.

Of course at home in my cardigan and slippers I’m always going to put on the old black thang of Zero Set and listen to it’s sweet hiss and crackle thought too many years of love.

I wish I had been at the hypnosis session.

Hats off.

It comes out like a new born baby, screaming and full of life.

Dingered and Rothered (boom boom!) off this EP is also floats our boat.
