We put a spell on you

Featuring:

Look at me eyes

Look at me eyes.

It’s spinning.

Tonight Friday the 18th, at 7.30, you will head towards the Penthouse above the Freebutt in Brighton, where the masters of mesmerism Juan and Stuart will be performing one of their rituals from 8 til 11. After a history of messy sacrifices and legal prosecution Juan and Stuart have found a way of using musick in order to perform magick.

‘German funk’, ‘italo disco’, ‘japanese noise’, ‘detroit white jazz’, ‘le Hague Electro’, ‘hobbit punk’, ‘appalachian stoner folk’ and ‘Butthole Surf’ are amongst the genres of choice for their inchantations.

No guard shall stand by the door to separate pagans from believers.

No donation from those attending will be required.

Only their souls! MWAHMWAHMWAHMWAH

Alcoholic beverages are cheap too.

And as a small demonstration of the delights that await those faithful enough to visit that Penthouse, a little spell devised by those pixies Die Monitr Batss, it grants the listener invisibility and is included in a lovely split 7” with Matmos, out in Ache Records. Thanks to Ashley in Edgeworld records for the recommendation.

Die Monitr Batss- Black Out Cross

You can’t see me I can’t see you

The eyes is stopped spinning now, go back to your normal lifes now, but don’t forget, at 7.30 tonight, destination Penthouse.

Those in London are excluded but instead should go to see the fantastic Blue Minkies at New Cross.

(The illustration in this posting is by Charles Burns, get Burn Again and read it if you haven’t yet cos it’s outta sight)

The second of today’s burnt offerings in by high cheekbone denizen of black and head of Flesh Recordings Midnight Mike.

Flesh Records is home to the amazing Zongamin who Mike co-produces and quite often has some of the best wierd dark artwork to be seen on records. The horror comic book poster which came with the Sonovak’s cover of Human Fly is a prime example of why buying a 7″ is so lovely.

I once touched an electric fence and felt a sensation pass all the way down to my foot. Mr Midnight is trying out similar techniques in order to bring him to his senses.

Personally I feel he has a total grasp of his senses in this lyrically twisting David Byrne type number.

Midnight Mike – Bring me too my senses

We do not suggest readers try any of the behaviour suggested by Midnight Mike, but if you do then let us know. We hope Mike never comes to his senses and continues making fantastic music.

It says on his site “all recordings and mix-downs take place during the midnight hour, with vocals only performed at full moon” – our kinda guy.

The last black pudding is from the wonderful Deerhoof album Half Bird on Menlo Park.

Rat Attack is a sweet sharp thrash out at 1:45. In this short time it manages to bridge the gap between the noisier parts of late King Crimson, Japanese spazzcore and Krautrock quite successfully. We suggest you play it on repeat a few dozen times to get the full impact which is pretty impressive.

Deerhoof – Rat Attack

Lastly (we will go soon) a plug for Miss Pain playing live on Saturday 19th Feb in Winchester at The Railway Inn with Glitchcentre + Kingsonix + rude_NHS + Apocalipstick Dancers + miss noma (DJ) + Killblinton (DJ). I have never been to Winchester but i recon for 3 quid there is nothing better on a Saturday Night at 8pm to do, so go along.

Go in peace now (btw congratulations Leigh Anne!)
