Ok, now that our indie hipster credentials have been endorsed by the Pope (he is a fan of Kraftwerk, y’see?), we can start setting trends.
The new wave of the new wave is…DOWN!!
Dirty crazy synth bands are…….UP!!
People like Mr. Quintron, the coolest werewolf mo-fo ever to emerge from New Orleans. Fashion tips…
-Get the look right…

-make your own instruments including the Drum Buddy, a customised drum machine that can be played by light, yeah, I mean, like rays of light play it. Putting the eek! back in geek! ( some photos of the premiere)
-record frogs in the fields croak croak be a frog much better than going for the whole naff cammo look
-do cover versions of old garage rock bands, say, a easy listening version of the unbeatable ‘A Certain Girl’ by those cheeky chaps the Yardbirds.
-sound like a Jon Spencer who actually fucked…ok, enough, of the slagging off…a Jon Spencer that fucked…with…aliens…who looked…like…Robots? No, like Vampirella! (He’s actually married to Miss Pussycat, sorry boys and girls)
…And the world will be your oyster.
We’d also like it if you recorded stompers as fucked up as this track which kickstarts the outta sight and ear ‘Are You Ready for an Organ Solo’, which came out a couple of years and still makes me throw up for joy. Yay!

People like Robotnicka, who sound and look as if they could have lots of fun jumping in a mattress with Mr. Quintron.
They are french and were made with metal, spy movie celluloid and 50s gay batman and robin cuteness by Gargamel to scare the shit out of those conformist asexual Smurfs. They pound their instruments like Melt Banana and rock it dada style like Les Georges and never leave home without a colourful synth, the essential fashion accessory this summer, Robotnicka know the score, they r cool kids! You make a move now!

(this song is available in the franticfantastic Spectre de Vue that Robotnicka released in Bloodlink in 2004)
(communication shutdown between Stuart and Juan, bip bip)

People like Lost Sounds, who rock the devo connection full circle sporting leather jackets (maybe take those off when it’s hot, you don’t want to sweat like Luther McDevil) while advocating public transport, they have just released an eponimous record for the famed Garage Stable In The Red and which is pure synthpunk bliss with some gueetar solos and bubblegum metal too. Go. Buy.
Lost Sounds- Mechanical Feelings
Cos a heartbeat ain’t more than a bloody finger pushing a key in your scrawny chest, now we’ve got a slogan, keyboard take-over this summer, that and big yellow framed glasses, if they scream at you in the streets wave non-chalantly, you’re a shining star and you’re blinding them!
This post is dedicated to Leesey , she doesn’t need a synth to be cool but she just got one anyway, yay! Help She Can’t Swim will be playing at the Freebutt on saturday, with Hyperkinako, be there! (preferrably with a synth!)
Ah, and have a lovely synthweekend!
(PS- Keeping up with the synth theme, we recommend you check out Grabba Grabba Tape who ‘blend Daft Punk and the Locust’ and churn a high powered vocoder driven screamo-new-wave bitch of a sound with pink hair. They’ll be playing in Brighton on the 1st of May and in Primavera Sound…we warning U!
Some sounds…
Grabba Grabba Tape- Otoram a Someratam
…at the ever amazing Dolby Surrender
There’s another mp3 by Grabba Grabba Tape in this page, scroll to the bottom, lazy bones!)
Epilogue -This post is tagged with bip bip cammo cheeky chaps cover versions fashion gargamel jon spencer know the score mo fo new wave organ solo own instruments place unknown quintron sorry boys start setting stompers vampirella
Nice post! I totally dig this kind of thing, actually play synth in a band that could slot in here somewhere. Lost Sounds are rad, totally weird band doin’ their own shit and getting really good at it. You might check out the Girls, from Seattle, another rad band with killer synth riffs, more on the party-punk side though.

‘A Certain Girl’ may have been done by the Yardbirds, but it’s a New Orleans R&B classic by Ernie K-Doe, the guy who did ‘Mother in Law.’

thanks for the tips, 20 jazz funk greats. those grabba grabba tape are quite impressive! and i’ve heard the’re touring the UK right now! so you should check them live…
my fave lost sounds record is “black wave”, which is amazing. the rest of their stuff is a bit heavier for me, but they totally rule live, so who cares.
and robotnicka released their album in the UK in Irkk label, home of ros murray’s lesbo pig and many more: ( http://irrk.org ). buy the record from them, because they’re nice people, and robotnicka kicks serious ass.
