Yep, after the highly praised ‘Revival of the Shittest’ comp/reissue last year, Gang Gang Dance are back with ‘God’s Money’ (out in the always great Social Registry label). And they are doing it ‘pop’ now!
Check dis out!!
Gang Gang Dance- God’s Money VI
Yay, looking forward to seeing them at cd:uk!
Now, I reckon they just said they were moving on a pop direction and they weren’t lying, this is a more accessible effort than most of the other stuff they’d done so far.
But now that they have opened up they are more mysterious than ever!!
How come?
I guess that when they were more experimental/improv/micro etc. it was easier to frame them, now I just can’t, I could say that they sound like Cotton Casino descending from a cloud to jam with PiL in Indonesia or something, but that’d be just lazy. I was listening to early Can stuff at Danny’s last evening and got a similar sensation of simultaneous chaos and restraint, space and claustrophobia (as in closeness, good if you like your music hot). Wonderful: you can have the cake and eat it, fuck thermodynamics!
Well, just listen and make up yr minds. And probably say WOAH!
Because this could well be the most magical, strangest-yet-familiar in a ‘when did I dream this?’ sense music that I’ve listened to this wicked year…swirling, violently seductive and emotional without telling you what to feel, simply otherwordly. Wandering around a dusky misty Hove with it on my headphones was as trippy as it’s got without drugs for a long time.
I usually use the word ‘amazing’, but Gang Gang Dance ain’t usual at all…
(runs into the darkness of the bedroom looking for a dictionary, never to be seen again)

abrazo fuerte
