We are Wolves – We are all Winners
Wow, i never win anything.
Goldkixx has been my portal into the world of what seems to be the most vibrant music scene I’m so jealous of. Canadians are uber cool this decade, its official. Goldkixx was nice enough to point us in the direction of We are Wolves which it turns out is more than just a football chant from somewere near Birmingham.
We are Wolves sound like the inbred offspring of X-Wife and are just part of the current crop from this distant and mysterious land of legend, Canada. Check Goldkixx affiliated PopMontreal and Su’s article on NUVO – Montreal’s Radical Pop Underground at No.1 in Belgium for more on this Canadian hot shit. (Also check Teaching the Indie Kids to Dance for Uncriticals words on Wolves EDIT – AND Molars Miami Vice meets symbolic logic review of these Montrealians(? unshore too!))
We are All Winners starts on its belly creeping up, but as soon as the riffing kicks in the slaughter begins rar! – hear the screams of pain from prey and the yelps of joy from the pack members as the blood flows and the drums role on. It’s a fast bloodthirsty hunt that seem to be over before its begun. Boo.
Bring your distortion, your synths, your drums via Klaus Dinger and your chosen poison. Riding on the backs of giant worms we can finally take back this planet and control the flow of spice in the galaxy! How can we fail? We are all winners!

Here is a nice picture of the drummer, I mean with a batman t-shirt and all those records on the wall behind, I had him down as a looser like me.
We are Wolves have an album Non-Stop Je Te Plie En Deux on Mintaka Conspiracy.
God, I’m so glad I’m not a looser anymore, it was beginning to get me down.

Martin Peter – HateFuckKillWar
With a song title like HateFuckKillWar somebody has as much built up tension as Juan on a 13hr non smoking flight.
After seeing the superb pink furry noise monsters that were Grabba Grabba Tape the other night at the freebutt I’m totally all about two piece bands with frantic drumming and noisy keyboards. Preferably furry.
Martin Peter is unfortunately not furry or a two piece but we will let him off for this short frantic drum and keyboard workout with ‘issues’.
I hope that made you feel better Martin, and you got it all out your system now.
Next time you feel tense, try this little song.
Fur! I am covered with fur.
From my snoot to my spur,
I’m a furry fella!
Fur! When you stroke it, I purr.
When you poke it, I grrr.
It’s maroon and yella!
Now, you may find fur too frightful,
But I’d never switch.
I find my fur delightful,
But, boy, does it itch!
You may see fur as horrible,
I say, “No sir!”
To me my fur’s adorable,
And I’m covered with fur.
( I kinda grow it. )
Fur! Keeps me warm when it’s brrr.
Don’t you wish that you were
Fairly bursting with fur, fur, fur?
Yes, fur is beautiful, fur is clever,
Furthermore, I’ll love fur furever!
Fur! Unfurgettable fur!
This is like the Furrvert national anthem.
We Are Wolves are intensely great- I heard about them from Goldkixx too, and wrote about them a little while ago (http://www.greenideasblog.com/molars/archives/2005/03/watch_these_cat.html). However, I have to say that, in re-reading what I wrote, your interpretation seems much better.

bah! this is so bazzare i don’t even get it. it’s like we’ve been sitting here in our basements all this time in humble canada doing our own thing and then this media frenzy just comes storming in, taking pictures and feeling all the stuff (even in my underwear drawer), and all of a sudden there are claims that this is where its at, and people set up camp and camp out for a while asking questions and experiencing the “cool”. whatever man, WHATEVER. i think i need to leave this place before actually being able to comprehend how the rest of the world views our country. this hype is just too weird.

muthfukkin Jay Watts III – can i get a whut whut?!? and, uh, TOC-TOC?!?!?
dear 20jfk – thnx for the shout out, i gotta get off my ass, er, or rather sit my ass down behind my laptop and get bloggin again.
it’s nice to see montrealers finally gettin’ rep worldwide – shiiit, only 5 years ago, no one there could’ve predicted this and i feel really lucky to have been around for the formative stages for bands like Arcade Fire, Unicorns, etc. even before that the “scene” was quite depressing (like teh climate) ‘cuz the overall attitude was “we’re never gonna make it unless we leave Montreal but Montreal’s awesome so fuck it let’s just fuckin rock the fuck out”…
europeans should be on the look out for the mighty Les Georges Leningrad and the sexy sexy Lezzies on X, both groups seem to be touring there heavily these days.
btw, not ALL the bands in Pop Montreal are Montrealers (or Canadians)… oh, and btw, i’m already hearing undercurrents of resentment among Montreal uber-hipsters that Montreal is no longer THE place to be; obviously these morons don’t check up on the blog scene.
peace in the middle east,
