White Drizzian

The other day a bunch of us were having delicious mexican food Julie had cooked and Dan slapped this into the…erm, i-pod. And I was like, wow, I want to post that in 20JFG…then I thought hum, maybe it’s not like, erm, 20JFG stuff.

Then I thought…but what is, like? Old school no kraut wave hop to the hole is where it’s at, and if we sound like wannabe hipsters then we’ve failed cos we just wanna be…wannabes.

Anyway, Plastic Little are a hip hop crew from Philly, associated with the mighty Hollertronix, and in their Thug Paradise 2.1 ep they are all over the place, just the way we like: discussions about the relative merits of Terminator III vs the Cremaster Cycle, toxic def jux stuff, chopped up strings and sexy jams, hanging out at…home on the computer…wanting…no…beef…and then this…

…Banging bass heavy electro beats add a bit more filth and it could be wolf eyes…Jurassic 5 disses…a killer chorus…drizhollering stands for ‘getting wasted’…’indie girls who like electroclash’ (it’s funny because it’s true)…quotes of ‘A Good Day’ by Ice Cube (didn’t have to use my AK)…fresh rhymes…and then that fly disney shit…

…that’s what convinced me, I took them to my crib and now they’ve nicked my perm kit, cheeky bastards!

And let us continue up north in Toronto, one of those places where you raise a stone and there’s a good band waiting to be discovered, you go to the band store and bands are half price, dog bands, it is band-land! Wait, I am having a Homer Simpson dream. Must be those repeats on Channel 4 at 6. Oh lordy…

Anyway, I’ve been into Lenin i Shumov since I listened to Sebia vs Sebe in the Toronto Blocks! compilation, would’ve posted it but you can find it in their website. Now they have come with a ‘real’ debut ep also out in Blocks Recording Club and it’s, erm, how do you say ‘great!!!’ in Russian?

Cos they are the winners of the ‘Russian-Language Noise-Rock band most popular with anglophones in the Greater Toronto Area’ award! And according to Mark they are a good dance too! Well, you’ve listened, you already knew that…

With intersections with Creeping Nobodies, Barcelona Pavillion, Ninja High School and many other people, what would you expect? hysteric ranting, mad man manic (apparently they have split up) animal collectivist celebratory spirit, Mahjonggian percussive rattling, no wave inside a bouncy happy bass scabbard and insanely catchy summery riffage, it couldn’t be any other way.

If this music was a city it would be Constant’s New babylon, a place with arcades built on top of each other ad anthill, crazy labyrinths and traps filling the sonic spectre, check it out, in this city the lamplights have switches so its inhabitants can reconfigure the streets at will, well, Lenin i Shumov have turned everything off, I don’t know where I am, but it’s very fun.

    Ninja High School will be opening for The Go! Team here in Toronto on July 13th. Lenin i Shumov are great.     Everytime I look at 20JFGs I am on a computer that won’t let me download the songs, and half the time don’t know what they’re on about. But I like the pictures, and I’ve heard that ‘Juan’ and ‘Stuart’ are HOT STUFF in the flesh!!

    that is some dirty shit of the best kind. i look forward to explaining to someone that i’m merely drizhollering whilst burning the calories to Shitmat later tonight.
