I think I’m gonna throw up…

Featuring:

Had to post this picture of the anorexia sponsored heiress.

Check out what it is holding.

They actually showed her the video too

Mu- Paris Hitlon

Yoof tv is a wonderful thing (ok, maybe that’s a lie).

Perfect chance to post this absolute classic, just in case you missed it.

Mu and Maurice Fulton-Let’s Get Sick

A tumbling barrage of drum patterns in a lesson for anyone trying to make beats. Still gives me a trouser tent the size of Jupiter every time I hear it, unlike Paris chicken features who makes me blow chunks.

We keep the beat-tastic (and robotic, or did you think that thing on top of the page was a woman, were you fooled by the plastic material that wraps her exo-skeleton?) theme today with this track off the rather beautiful debut by the Juan MacLean, ‘Less than Human’, out in DFA Records soon.

I could go on about how maybe Daft Punk are human after all and so on and so forth and maybe it’s better to be less than human but you have to leave the french daddies alone, Optimo DJ’s made my night at Primavera by playing a bit of ‘Technologic’ (they also dropped ‘Do it!’ by Plastique de Reve and I went yahoo-kazoo).

I’ll just say that those electronic albums with ‘human’ in their title out this year (any more?) have had awesome productions, in the case of Daft Punk you can say whatever you want about the songs themselves but it’s undeniable that the loops sound phat as fuck, meebee it’s a DJ album… after all.

Should mention again Out of Breach (Manchester’s Revenge) by Mu and her funky hubby Maurice Fulton, which could have been called ‘More than human’ cos that’s what she is.

Anyway, going back to that Juan we were talking about, I was going to post ‘Tito’s Way’, which is, with ‘Give Me Every Little Thing’ (out for a while in a split single with Killing by The Rapture), the dancefloor killer in ‘Less than Human’, but then I decided to go for this wonderful robo-love ballad (the vocals ain’t the vocals…) which reminds me a bit of the DFA’s remix of Rise by Delia & Gavin (btw included in Optimo’s Psyche Out mix which I would recommend highly as it’s got Hawkwind and the Silver Apples and Throbbing Gristle and many others in it and do you need to know any more?) but with an old skool house/I am the operator with the pocket calculator melodic flavour replacing the prog-goblin-kosmische spirit of that track, hit me!

The Juan MacLean – Shining Skinned Friend

An ace title for something lovely with synthetic melodies hovering on top of trademark Juan/DFA breakbeats, every pause, breakdown and note have been carefully engineered to please and excite the loyal jazzfunkgreatster, taking him or her in a walk up and down the avenues of Robot City where all sorts of mechanic delights can be voyeuristically enjoyed. Simply Beautiful (check Juan MacLean’s own analysis of the track here if you think that our usual robo-comment’s lame, you luddites, you!)

DFA do YMO!

PS.

We would like to congratulate our mates and fellow conspirators Matt and Andy on the highly positive review their band Raised by Wolves, which we already talked about here, received in this month’s The Wire. Cheers fellows!

PPS.

We would like to know, what’s everyone’s favorite music festival (not just this year) so we can plan holidays next year ???

P.S.’ P.S.: Did you see Genenesis’ brand new breast at (o era in?) the Psychic TV show? “I like you… your very nice!”

  6. I’ve been to a lot of festivals. Glastonbury is the best.

I agree with your comments on the majority of UK festivals… the likes of Reading & V are pretty awful. Loads of beered up teenagers & you get chucked out of the arena at 11pm.

I’ve always enjoyed myself at The Big Chill. Although i’m not sure it’d be up your street. A lot of babies and not enough freakazoid music.

I’ve heard that Burning Man in the Nevada desert is the thing to go to. I think there may be a lot of naked hippies there though.

I’m going to give Lowlands a bash this year I think. You can’t go wrong with a festival in Holland. Can you?
