Wave of mutilation!!

The Velvets shot drugs (poor Kate Moss) on young rock and roll and dragged its twitching body to a den of white noise. No Wave insects feasted on its corpse and synthetised small rusty iron toothpicks that when aligned in the right configuration turned into siege engines that brought down not their enemies but their progenitors, were they the same? Not many there to see it, it wasn’t a nice spectacle.

Mars- 3E

This track was the debut single by Mars, it came before the more quoted than read Brian Eno produced No New York compilation and funnily enough it reminds me of him. At 1.46 guitars that sound like the girl who fell in the razorwire pool in Suspiria if she had been an instrument crawl from under the woodworks never to leave noise rock again.

It is included in the Mars Complete Studio Recordings NYC 1977-1978 recently reissued in vinyl.

Park Attack based in Glasgow rock the what wave and go nicely straight after the pre-dawn of the dead Mars.

Park Attack- Coma Baby Lives

In this case what you get is a perfect understanding of the crashing lo-fi Velvet Unerground drone, that one which takes you to headbangingnodding land where each tiny drop of rythimic oil poured in the bulldozer’s deposit, a few degrees left or right in the steering wheel with snake eyes hanging over it means another blissful hit and run incident, by them and with them.

They haven’t called one of their songs ‘Sister Ray in 3 minutes flat for nothing’.

This is included in the Last Drop at Hide Out maxi released by OSCARR.

To finish, Ensaladilla Rusa, which actually is a Spanish dish I find totally revolting, guess if you hate boiled eggs and mayo it doesn’t make much sense to try it and then throw up on top of other people because that’s not standard social behaviour. Ensaladilla Rusa are also a spanish band, and in their minute long (or less) workouts they manage to repeat No Wave’s most successful structural scientific experiment, the modification of the listeners perception of time through a non-linear approach to the drone (unpredictability is a form of predictability), which is one of the not necessarily intended outcomes of the best type of improvisation.

This is as jazzy as we want our stuff.

They simply say they are = Napalm Death + SMiLE + The Residents + Naked City + Tio Sam MacKaye.

We say, bring it on.

Ensaladilla Rusa- Sus Tuberias Seran de PVC

Listen to them, was it only a minute? The effect is of course enhanced when you go through ‘Coleopteros’, the whole album, which you should buy from Ozono Kids in very cute 3” CD format.

They’re also mates with Grabba Grabba Tape who we love so we love more.

Incidentally, the name of the track means ‘Their water pipes will be made of PVC’, you know we approve of this kind of bizarreness.

So we walk off smiling.

(Check out Lesson No. 1 cos it rules)
