20JFG vs London, it’s a Halloween Beetroot thing

You know the story…

‘A musician witnesses the murder of a famous psychic, and then teams up with a fiesty reporter to find the killer while evading attempts on their lives by the unseen killer bent on keeping a dark secret buried’…It happened to me yesterday…

Yay, it’s Profondo Rosso, it’s the original master of horror Mr. Dario Argento himself, who when asked about all this ‘his hands being those of the cruel killers as shot in his movies’ business replied ‘heh, it’s funny, yes, I guess if I hadn’t been a movie director I’d have made a really good serial killer’.

heh. Where does he go at night?

It’s also Goblin, the original psyche horror outfit, who got so much into the pain killer thing they went past the p, the a, the i, the n, and started getting into the killer, their soundtracks are unsurpassed masterpieces of atmospheric horror.

Yeah.

It’s the reinaissance man of dark electronica Midnight Mike, it’s rumoured in certain circles that he’s a relative of Dario Argento so it makes sense for him to be covering the Profondo Rosso theme, as frozen in a bloodchilling scream by Goblin. The fact that ‘he was born at the stroke of midnight, on a full-moon, during a lightning storm, and his head was gripped by cold steel as he was pulled screaming into a cruel world’ helps too.

He’s got Roy Mystery (real name, how cool is that) at the drums and Zongamin at the bass, that’s a hell of a vampire hunter team, are they hard enough to challenge the forces of darkness?

Midnight Mike- Profondo Rosso

No, they are diabolic enough to join them.

Happy Halloween!!

As a bonus track, and only cos we know you’ll be evil k-nievel this weekend, here’s Mat 101’s tribute to Goblin…

Mat101- Goblin 101

This was recorded in 1999, before all that electrocla$h thing, and its eerie new romantic space invader brandishing a kitchen knife in the teutonic disco beats sound timeless like the heart of darkness or Cthulhu’s sleep, I know you’ll rock to this like those dead bastards who came with the fog. Oh yeah. Wreak Havoc in your towns, shake things up a bit, we’ll be trying to do that in London tomorrow…you know…

So if you live there…

20jazzfunkgreats need you!

Thee XXJFG Crue (damn no umlaut) have been asked to play records in the Lock Tavern in Camden on Saturday 29th from 3pm as part of The Adventures in the Beetroot Field events organised by the nice man Ricky Hayley of The Liars Club in Nottingham.

As you know, we cannot dj so this is a bit scary for us.

Please come along and say hello and be nice to the two ‘we are not from round these parts’ looking guys behind the decks as we fumble and juggle Goblin, Chromatics, Neu!, Animal Collective, Boredoms, Zongamin, Kraftwerk, Oneida, Lightning Bolt, Map of Africa, Robert Rental, Blood Brothers, Zuinosin, Grabba Grabba Tape and other such things we know you all love onto those spinning round things and hopefully push the buttons in the right direction (you see! We have been watching videos and know how its done!).

Joining us will be lots of other club nights from around the uk who all work there asses off in an effort to provide the uk with one of the best underground club scenes and bring great bands to your town.

This includes Manchester’s very own Tramp!.

James from Tramp was nice enough to tell us about his night.

We are the only weekly night in Manc playing the sort of stuff we do and putting bands on. James and Will are the resident DJs and there are 4 of us who run/promote/organize/get fucked at the night. We play alternative dance music, indie disco, classic rock n’ roll, miami bass, hip-hop, punk, whatever.

Bands / people we’ve put on in the past include Chromeo, Justice, VHS or Beta, Crazy Girl, Ping Pong Bitches, Rory (trash), Cursor Miner, Ignition, blah blah blah.

We’re every Wednesday at a basment dive on Piccadilly called the Bierkeller. It’s essentially a 30 year old German beer hall with a fuck off soundsystem.

Myself & Will are newly appointed residents at the legendary Homoelectric.

We also have a residency at reknowned Manc muso-hang out Cord Bar on Thursday nights in the Northern Quarter of the city.

Below is a current list of stuff we’re playing!
Black Dice - Smiling Off (DFA mix)
Long Blondes - Polly
Tom Tom Club - Under The Boardwalk
Hot Chip - My Shit’s On Fire
The B52’s - Trism (Riton remix)
The Shadows - Heart Of Glass
