video games are violent and their music is fun

Featuring:

(what’s there not to like?)

In anticipation to my possible participation in a research project about learning processes in the video-game industry I have decided to take a look at three different eras in the history of this form of entertainment, art, if thou wilt.

Let us begin with the dark knight himself, yes, Batman! Based on the landmark PVC movie, A lil conglomerate of pixels with nipples runs up and down platforms throwing lil pixels at other pixels which explode in pixels. Sweet!

The Advantage- Batman Stage 1

This track is included in the genius ‘Elf Titled’ album by The Advantage, out in 5RC, in which the boys cover with applomb and geeky fidelity the awesomely melodious soundtracks of those lovely cassette tapes which kept us at home and away from crack during our wonderful childhoods. Sweetx2! Don’t forget to dance the Batusi while playing this.

And how sweet is is this artwork? sweetx3!

Then…

Men’s Recovery project- Egyptian Assassin

Ok, he wasn’t Egyptian, he was Persian, but still, this track off the best of Men’s Recovery Project, also released by 5rc conveys perfectly the mysterious and threatening ambiance of the visir’s palace, through whose corridors I used to roam, prance and bounce, the only physical exercise of my early teenage years this was, and one of the few video-games actually unable to resist my clumsy fingers and general lack of co-ordination, I finished it! It took me fucking ages to realise I had to wait for the lil’ mousey to come and rescue me from that cell thing though…

The rest of the Men’s Recovery Project album is a 40 tracked exciting excursion through the land of deranged quasi-moronic or is it very smart experimentation, where Minor Threat meets the Butthole Surfers meets the Residents meets Professor Tarr and Fether, I say. A bit like all the skits in the Need New Body albums if they were actually fucking amazing.

I finished The Warriors dead fast, which is surprising taking into account that me and my flatmates where unable to get that far in Vice City or San Andreas. I got to this point when I gave up on the missions and simply started arming myself to the teeth, climbing on top of buildings and blowing stuff up until the army came and eventually wasted me. Good to let steam off after work, eh? I even did an invincibility cheat and went into the police station to pull a Terminator.

Padded Cell- Piccadilly Line Strut

When I wasn’t commiting acts of random savagery, I used to cruise around the city listening to stuff such as this track, b-side on the single recently released by Padded Cell, another slice of DC recordings affiliated electrofunky goodness, it really makes me want to roll up the sleeves of my white jacket, fucking hell it’s freezing.

Thanks to those who filled the Penthouse on friday, and the dancefloor of The Do after, Juan played…
