How many good bands with wolf in their name…Wolf Eyes, We Are Wolves, Raised by Wolves…we’re not so hot on Wolf Parade but Dan digs ‘em so they’re cool with us, like. What’s the thing about this beautiful and bloodthirsty animal that makes adopting its name such an attractive proposition for restless souls? Maybe the answer is in the question, inquisitive one.

Maybe it’s got to do with the image of an epic chase through obscure forests, wolf pack and prey turned inseparable partners in a deadly game, does Bambi ever look back? probably not, the reflection of its fleeing body on savage eyes an image of dread, the first step towards the freudian fulfillment of a genetic death wish.
Bloody hell, Wolf and Cub sound, in their self titled debut ep released last year, like Les Savy Fav jamming with Measles Mumps Rubella after chewing a mouthful of razorblades. They’ve got a 7” coming out in 4AD soon, watch out, I think they are fucking hungry.

Maybe it’s got to do with the wild and vicious nature of the wolf attack which savagely pierces the skin and flesh of the terrified victim leaving on its wake but a carcass of bones to dry and one day meld into the primeval mould of the forest.
This track is included in AIDS Wolf’s mindnumbingly nopewave noisy yell-feasty and sickly enjoyable in a hey these guys really make you feel something even if it’s annoyed sometimes Lovvers LP. They are Canadian, we were starting to miss Montreal in our blog dood (Btw check out Monster Klaw by Les Georges Leningrad in their new split with Die Monitr Batss, it’s wicked in more than one way).

Maybe it’s got to do with the shine of love with which the noble wolf mother observes its cub while it sleeps, blood from the prey biologically transustantiated into a tear of joy, a pang of worry about the future welfare of the lil’ one.
Mark Lindsey and W. Michael Lewis- Daigoro’s Theme
This song is from the american soundtrack to that legendary first dodgily edited version of Shogun Assassin that Genius/GZA ripped off for Liquid Swords (everyone repeat with me, ‘choose the sword and you will join me, choose the ball, and you will join your mother in death…’…coool), which as many of you will know, features Ogami Itto and his son Daigoro, (aka Lone Wolf and Cub, see what we are doing here) roaming medieval Japan looking for vengeance and killing so many people it would be obscene if it wasn’t so beautiful.
This particular tune soundtracks the moment in the movie when Daigoro goes to look for water and food for his father, severely wounded after a fight with the Shogun ninjas, it’s super-cute!
