an XXJFG summer

Its the summer, its actually sunny and hot (ish) in Brighton! So here, erm… is Dark Day:

Dark Day- Chameleon

Yeah ok, this is a bit morose and if its raining where you are, sorry if you feel the need to cry when listening, but we never said 20 Jazz Funk Greats was all rollercoasters, no, and fluffy bunnies in pretty fields in springtime, nope.

No, instead, appreciate the downwardly spiralling skeletal guitar from Mr R. L. Crutchfield (formerly of DNA), and the way it kind of sounds like a new wave goth recording of a forgotten Brian Eno vocal track.

Dark Day seem to be a favourite of Glass Candy and Chromatics (our favourites) as Glass Candy ended the ‘Nite Nurses’ CDR with a cover of the above track and Chromatics continue to record ‘Hands In The Dark’, which means there is some sort of evil three pointed triforce of devilish disco formed between the bands, which is a sure sign of The End Times, but the details on that are sketchy and besides im too tired to spell them out.

You can read an interview with Robin over at the superduper Warped Reality Magazine along with some mp3s of DNA and more Dark Days.

One for the sweaty summer club nites then, continuing the general Rother theme from last post (Rother = good music):

Anthony Rother- Luzifer

A Mixmag ‘banger’, yeah mate, but don’t hate it, theres room for nasty 4/4 electro beats here (just not stoopid techno, fuck off). Many producers try to imitate this kind of stuff, but many totally bomb (just check Juno’s electro house section, like, every week).

This rules though cos the buzz-bass is just at the right frequency, the cardiac monitor bleeps aren’t too over done and Lucifer’s guest vocals ain’t bad either. We dig the Goblin-like synths that flash in and out the mostest, plus check out the cool artwork on picture disc!

More picture discs from bands please! (though not from The Darkness cos they aren’t very good at it, see? - jeez, Juno will sell anything)
