>SHALL WE PLAY A GAME_

Cerrone’s ‘Supernature’ would be here right at the top if only it had not been posted already by both Moistworks and The Number One Songs In Heaven. It would be at home today with its glamorous snynthetique disco-porn thumps.

Its Italo day! First up comes a jaunty little number by Digital Emotion. What they lack in the imaginative rhyming department, they more than make up for with well placed lasers and pounding camp electronic beats:

Digital Emotion - Go Go Yellow Screen (12″ Version)

This track has everything! The aforementioned lasers, robot sounds, Blue Monday kick drums, crappy melodies verging on 8-bit that sound like they’ve been blasted out on a Stylophone and even Grime-like gunshot samples. A distant comedy cousin to Kano’s (the 70’s Italo Kano, not the 00’s Grime kid) ‘I’m Ready’ - recently sampled for a remix of Stereo Total’s ‘Everybody In The Discotheque (I Hate)’.

If the movies are to be believed, (take for example one of the “greats”: Total Recall) we will soon all live on Mars where, whilst we wait for terraforming to finish, we can dance to stuff like this in mutant bothels with three-titted hookers and Arnold Schwarzenegger and that horrid man with another little midget man grafted into his belly would show up and the place would totally freak when he started to body pop to this:

Starflight - Dance To The Beat

The old Italo favourite the vocoder gets an airing here, croaking over the constant hi-hat shake, vinyl scrathin’ stabs and atmospheric swathes of keyboards.

For all you Sci-Fi nerds out there,

This weekend Friday 28th July it is Sci-Fi Party!
