I guess The Blood Brothers can be a bit of an acquired taste (if you’re over 17): a pure ADHD rollercoaster of grindcore razorblade sharp plunges and piano led power ballad peaks, if mathrock is beardy rock and roll guys showing (off) their jazz influences, then they are lethal hardcore punk kids throwing up their glam rock ones (at the Opera house)- like a recording of Fiery Furnaces covering Black Sabbath after drinking six hundreds thermos of coffee being played at 45, only way way better.
If you liked Test-Icicles (I didn’t that much), well, these guys are the real deal.
Their new album, ‘Young Machetes’, to be released by V2 Records is produced again by Guy Piccioto from Fugazi and it hits hard and fast and all over, it’s slightly more settled and dare we say, mature than anything they had put out before, still hysterical & shamelessly anthemic as we like it, haters will keep hating and get out of the room in 2 minutes, 20Jazzfunkgreat guys keep smiling, close their eyes and spazz out.
And the big-eyed kids in the moshpit will dance and cry and snog and do all that stuff they do etc etc.
The Blood Brothers- Vital Beach
This is one of the most straightforward tunes in the record still made my eyes roll until I could see the the inside of my skull, sweet as a nut mate, sweet as a nut. Some bass work there too…

It’s a bit late and feeling supersleepy so not posting anything else tonight, sorry people, we’ll make sure to keep you well fed the rest of the week.
But before an early warning for the weekend, and a sound teaser:

This Saturday (12th) in London it’s Tantrum at lovely Barden’s with the (talking about Black Sabbath!) mighty Part Chimp breaking your spine with the homicidal sine-doom wave, Infants rattling your ribs at the spazz of light with rapid stuttering satisfying sex music, and Chikbudo bringing some ‘dance-rock moves’ (that could mean oh so many things, expect the best): so yeah, be there for a fucking righteous basement dance party that should go from 8 til 2 for a mere fiver, if you’re in doubt just check dis out…
And the weekend after (19th August), also at Barden’s as you know, it’s It Came from the Sea (we’ll remind you about this next week of course), after the glorious launch bash the kids are back for a total takeover.
Anyhow, we’ll try and be up in London this saturday for the Tantrum event above, as well as for some sort of warehouse party somewhere where the ‘leaders’ of the London Scene will be doing their thing. We don’t care that much for the ‘leaders’ but we’re really looking forward to see Alexis recreating the sounds of ‘the best house music ever made’ (by Thomas Bangalytter in 1991 in case you were wondering), and of course fucking A Silverlink, who by the way’s got some advice for you: ‘there’s no K in rave’.
And we’re off to bed now, be good our lovelies.
