Happy New Year readers! 2OO6 is dead DEAD! Stabbed to death! We hope you had fun spinning around to jackin’ EBM or feral no wave yelps, whatever is your bag for NYE, we hoped you liked it. We are looking forward to 2OO7, waiting feverishly for new stuff from Justice, Michael Dracula, Crystal Castles, Animal Collective, Simon Bookish, M.I.A., Dizzee Rascal and numerous others.
By way of two album releases and numerous 12″s in 2OO7, 20JFG hero Johnny Jewel will own this year, inheriting the Earth, the Solar System and the cosmos in the process.

Chromatics last tour CDR ‘In Shining Violence’ alternated between the sound of robotic death and afterlife, desperate loneliness spent in caves on Neptune, and gigantic spacecraft exploding in slow motion in deepest space. ‘Icey Jungle’ is the sound of the Earth freezing into a frosted-glass sphere in a new ice age. LP ‘Shining Violence’ looms over the land like a pitch black mist, a one-tone hum resonating from its pinnacle. At nitetime the mist morphs into a black skull and the humming is more intense.
What we love about Chromatics is that the music is so precious and delicate. Of course we dig the pounding insanity of cavemen like AIDS Wolf, Die Princess DIe and Child Pornography, but we need a change every now and then, something to counteract the death blows.

Glass Candy is the shining discoball-brain in the pitch black Chromatics mist skull. A shard of light shoots from the discoball and beams the band down to the groud. They appear on the wasteland horizon as a mixture between the dead pirates in “The Fog” and the reanimated spirit of Ziggy Stardust after Bowie killed him off.
Glass Candy’s last tour CDR ‘Music Dream’ ended with a 38 minute long looped sound that when played heralds the end of all things. But ‘B-Girls’ kick off with a robot’s synthetic heartbeat then Ida No comes in like Roxy Music had never existed or GC had thought of it first. Johnny Jewel beams in guitar parts from uncharted nebullas and the whole thing is permiated with a jaguar-like pulse.

New Johnny Jewel-produced signing to Italians Do It Better, Farah, is the wasteland and star studded sky surrounding the mist skull.
New era Glass Candy is Dark what with covers of Dark Day and a vampiric cover of Shocking Blue’s ‘Love Buzz’ and Chromatics do the whole atmospherics from the witch’s parlour in Suspiria with expert knowledge, but ‘Law Of Life’ seeps like creeping flesh from the darkest pits of Hell, y’know where its not all fire and devils, its just dead trees and still, cold air.
So yeah, there you have it! forst post of the year with dark mystikal wonders from disco wizards and Miami vampire overlords. We hope it was not too dark for you dear readers, we know we can be a bit like that at times. If you doubt that statement, let me quote from readers that have left nice comments about us on our del.icio.us page:
“interesting indie music blog from some of those depressezoids in the UK”
“Blog of electronic music. Mostly obscure enough to always find something you wont like.”
Man, maybe we shouldn’t read our own press in future, huh? Have fun nursing hangovers kids, and spare a thought for us poor Brightonians who have to listen to 5 hours of non-stop big beat from Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique 3! We may need to fire up the remote controlled robot Sharks and stop this silly beachside mess before it gets any worse! Laters x
