A Convergence of Wizardry

We don’t usually do this, we are all about fair distribution of things of an mp3 persuasion. Juan posted Sorcerer’s last single last week, but I’m too excited for the album to not post something from it - brilliance should not be ignored! The LP is called “White Magic” which you could probs gather from the dodgy unintentionally pixelated image above (soz for the qualitee), and is out in July on the most bodacious Tirk Records.
Sorcerer flips back his cloak and fires out slow motion comets of warm spacial love for this LP. ‘Bamboo Brainwave’ swaggers along in double-digit BPM style, creeping across your brain like shadows of palm trees as the blazing sun sets over the desert plains. It has a regal quality in its synth lines and fizzling percussion and the 8-bit rhythms just past the 2 minute mark don’t sound out of place but just right. This sunbeam of wizardry stands for all things good, but as always there is a bad side to compliment the brightness…

Tangerine Dream, a team of Warlocks sent from a cold and dark region of deepest space, soundtracking a movie by the name of “Sorcerer” in our Wizardry post! See what we did? We are like fucking lightyears beyond ourselves in our geniusness sometimes, y’know?
Now, “Sorcerer” is not the most magical of films - i.e there is no actual sorcery - but Tangerine Dream turn it into this otherworldly suspense thriller in the same way that John Carpenter’s score turned “Assault On Precinct 13″ into a horror film. ‘Vengeance’ is a minimal marching beat with doom-laden synthesised shards of blackness floating throughout its uniformed staccato rhythms.
But then ‘Rain Forest’ is an attack of the aliens chase sequence from your worst nightmares with chattering insects and drums lit by the full sanguine Moon. Close your eyes and think of any of Tangerine Dream’s album covers animating to life, then crank up the tension and maybe listen to this on the way to the DVD shop to go buy ‘Sorcerer’?
