DIY Gambinos

Featuring:

Tedious corporate droning about the death of culture brought forward by the arrival of a new information distribution model based on diffusion/hybridisation instead of consumption and control is challenged by a thriving network of true DIY labels and artists who perhaps won’t build many mansions in the hills of Malibu or fuel international cocaine trade but are in this thing for all the right reasons, and rock. Labels such as Deathbomb Arc, Not Not Fun, Gilgongo or Lovepump United, to name but a few, are shining examples of what we are talking about, and this post is for them, and their supporters.

20JFG favourites Foot Village plummet you senseless with a hailstorm of drumss, or the Smurfs as a predatorial mammal techno horde of little gold coloured motherfuckers, get lost in their forest and be probably destroyed to awake in the spirit world, oh immortal loa, as neolithic party beats turn your ribcage into a heart-suffocating deathspider and the stars gaze merciless while your flesh decays becoming biomass, sort of like the Clan of the Cave Bear (loh!) meets House Party 2, FTW.

Foot Village- 4 Narc Party

Foot Village start a US tour this month so get ready to receive the forest and transcend into the rhythm in the dates and venues indicated here, don’t forget to say hi from us Blighty confined scoundrels.

Baby Gecko arrive from Arizona in a lovely split 7 with no wave sax gremlins Soft Shoulders recently released by Gilgongo, pushing into the vanishing point at the end of the road with the committed strength of true post-hardcore noise rock believers, the sort of epic progressions we were talking about last week unfurl like continental rifts played back at ultra-fast speed, or as they say in these parts, ‘someone threw Sonic Youth into the harvester and their blood nurtured our crops, may the fruits of the Earth make the children of this farm grow strong and healthy’ (they do).

Baby Gecko- Paint the Streets

Not Not Fun keep the dens of the wierd improv noise conspiration warm with a steady supply of totemic vinyl artifacts which, when placed in a turntable, raise the temperature and soothe the spirits, the sounds are oft agressive and gnarly, but then we wouldn’t have it any other way because we so love to get drenched in the sticky drip drip rain & white light white heat emissions of powerful spirits let loose, or shake to the ominous ruminations of dark beasts of a geological age which lie hidden in the grooves of a seemingly inoffensive record, that is the darkness of the abyss in which we gaze, Heavy Winged stare back making our heart skip several beats. From their astounding split with Blues Control in the Bored Fortress series.
