Cloud

Reissues are about as common nowadays as a purple American Apparel hoodie on a skinny indie kid. The Cloud label are putting out some of the best in 20JFG’s humble opinion, releasing two-track 12″s of hot cosmic disco and balearic love, while the parent company, Supersound, puts out the disco stomps and italian fine tailored dance.

Claude Larson - 64k RAM

In ‘64k RAM’ Claude Larson freaks you slow with a low slung baseline but then shocks your ears with squirting synths in the shape of Elizabethan baroque strings tag-teamed with Arabic beams of starlight and drum tones from far up the echoey mountains. As the peasants dance in the village square, pan pipes meld with weird little computing sounds and soar overhead.

From the yearless album, High Tech, track available on 12″ with Vangelis from Phonica.

Mark Shreeve’s 80’s-tastic zombie Converse model gives Kavinsky an (Out)run for his money, all glowing eyes, studded-leather jacket slick wavey hairdo and skinny torn jeans (probs). Nice cover art, fetching with the Satanic red glow of burning rubble, but check out the ‘Demon Headmaster’-artwork on the later release here, yoinks!

Mark Shreeve - Storm Column

‘Storm Column’ glides in on stuttering synth shards until bombastic 80’s powerdrums strike up and the Overlord rides in on a red-eyed black stallion, the backdrop a grid system from Tron, firing off lightning strikes across the land, frying those lousy do-gooders. This is from the Legion album which is this weird mix of Italo-hair metal, hear it and cry glittering blood.

12″ available from Piccadilly, b/w Max Berlin.

Venus Gang look to the stars and signal to the drone robots on the mothership to press play on the tapedeck. They press play.

Venus Gang - Love To Fly

‘Love To Fly’ is an atmospheric strut across galaxies, telling the tale of a Nubian-warrior beautie’s freefall through the stormy niteskies. Its taken from the album ‘Galactic Soul’ which sees the band formed in a spaceage Mount Rushmore pose for the cover and the tracks echo around the solar system, reverberating in black holes and spinning at 33rpm around the rings of Saturn.

Buy the 12″ from Piccadilly kids.

That whole Mark Shreeve album is pretty awesome. How can you go wrong with a 80’s concept album based on Stephen Kings The Stand?

  2. Steve from Dunwich

agreed, there should be more concept albums about horror books!
