Sally Shapiro- Jackie Jackie (Spend this Winter With Me) (Dylan’s Subzero Nocturne Remix)

Sally Shapiro’s new single, ‘Jackie Jackie’ (out on ever so excellent Permanent Vacation) is another beautiful slide of ridiculously perfect 80s pop, every tune in it is a lovely nugget summoned from a mythical past of neon and mascara and Chinese dragons gliding through the skies of Fantasia, for all you lovers out there to get total melancholy to.

My favourite tune in it right now is Dylan’s remix of the title track, which finds Sally’s wistful musings enveloped in a minimal baroque synth concertina which slides smooth over her pale shoulders like a blue cloak made of pixie dust, if you have ever felt alone on a winter night I expect you will understand what is going on here, and perhaps also wonder what the hell is wrong with Jackie.

A beautiful forest through which a procession of figures wearing white robes walk down to the river under the pale white moon, the owls observe this peaceful march perched from the branches high above with what some would think is a gentle smile in their wise faces.

The Rubies-The Keys (Studio Remix)

Another confederacy of lovely sounds where Swedish masters of slow psychedelic bliss Studio carry out a remix of Rubies’ ‘The Keys’ which sounds slightly different from what we are used to, this is, the percussive codeine cosmic fractal stomp that has become their signature is replaced with the jangle of perhaps more traditional nonetheless elegiac dreamy gospel folk , be engulfed by wave after wave of heavenly guitar melody and mellow synths which bring to mind memories of times spent laying of the grass staring into a friendly sky populated with constellations made of gleaming silver.

Floating inside a maelstrom of benevolent energies which are exercised through the empty spaces of the cosmos to keep planets and stars spinning gentle in their eternal dance.

Windsurf- Pocket Check

Here we have another resplandescent balearic spell which sparkles with the same emotional glamor of slow disco magi Aeroplane and Coyote. Windsurf is Hatchback and Sorcerer, and its Future Warriors EP out in Prins Thomas’ Internasjonal is as captivating a piece of mysterious oh so close gently silent electronic soul music as you are likely to come across these days. I like to play it while I drive my pink convertible through the streets of Vice City with the sun setting, love saves the day this time.
