We already told you about Stickydisc Recordings, which is the labour of love of Eric Broucek, DFA’s in-house sound engineer. After Babytalk’s awesome ‘Keep on Move’ he has a couple of references just out of the press which keep defining a vector which draw the label into the glimmering zone of 20JFG worship.
Watussi is a project including Eric and Morgan Wiley from Hercules and Love Affair, and its debut 12” is an absolutely brilliant piece of classy nouveau disco which kills it smoothly on both sides, here you have ‘If All We Had Was Love’, kicking off oh so lovely, subdued horns that shall later engulf us, keyboard tip-toeing around the mid-tempo lovers rock beat before dipping down into the subsonic field where good things happen, lines drawing the profile of a beautiful piece of timeless music which sits with a wry melancholic smile somewhere in between Balihu/Environ’s NYC avant-classicism and the warmth of early-era Chicago.
Sensations and emotions shine more elegant inside the perfumed zone of seduction it defines without losing any of their intensity, this is a spell not that many have the skill and instinct to muster, we think of Jurgen Paape and Poni Hoax, which is some mighty sweet company to be in.
Watussi- If All We Had Was Love

Babytalk return for the second 12″ – as mighty and muscular as the first – entitled “Chance”. You may have heard said track infiltrating like nanobots into your ears via Beats In Space, where Tim Sweeney has been sneaking it in nestled between smooth disco-tech and herculean house, its synthetic loveliness like a plush jungle of candy vegetation in a giant bubble floating past Neptune. There is of course a killer Hercules & Love Affair remix:
Babytalk – Chance (Hercules & Love Affair Remix)
H&LA strip back the track to its bare rhythms, and use Dub as the springboard to compile all the best sounds into a disco anthem with knowing nods to blissful warehouse House. The vocals are fractured to ghostly light trails streaming through dark tunnels, and brittle rolling thunder synths usher in the raining hi-hat that sounds like swordplay between Fingers Inc. and a relaxed Frankie Knuckles. Ocassionally the facade of the slow motion warehouse is shattered and we’re back in blackest space, floating with the jungle in the bubble past the planets.
No doubt fellas, Stickydisc is one classy affair!
