Munich-based Permanent Vacation are another of those labels that seem to exist just to delight your 20Jazzfunkgreats types with beaming rays of light transmitted from the pristine decks of some wonderful cruise across the golden seas of class, as exemplified by our most beloved disco chanteuse Sally Shapiro, 40 Thieves, Ilya Santana (of Quasar fame) and Woolfy.
Well, here you have a couple of hot tunes hot off their sweet promo press, enjoy!

Alexis Le-Tan & Jess curate ‘Space Oddities’, a compilation of Rare European Library Grooves from 1975 to 1984, which take us back to those days of futuristic optimism in the possibilities of science and technology, when mankind still believed in the predictions of sci-fi writers regarding the potential exploration of the mysteries of space.
So yes, there are sweet lounge rhythms you can perfectly imagine being piped down the speakers of a charter flight around the rings of Saturn, and synthetiser arabesques to soundtrack a dreamy walk through blinding constellations of beauty and promise. Our fave French sound alchemist Bernard Fevre is also featured with a wonderful sketch about Dali which massages us with wave after wave of analogue synth bliss.
In spite of their ethereal themes, many of these tunes are endowed with muscular rhythmic structures establishing a loose connection between their abstract experimentation and the cosmological ambitions of black funk. This is perfectly exemplified by F McDonald and C. Rae’s Dance Robot, which comes across like Barry de Vorzon’s soundtrack for the Warriors if only the film had been starred by buff chromed androids strutting down the dusty avenues of Mars, a vision that, in itself, justifies a boost in the budgets of NASA and ESA.

Gee, last time I heard Panthers, they sounded a bit like the MC5, I don’t know anything about the original of Goblin City, which was featured in a record released by by Vice Records last year, but I’m sure as hell loving the excellent disco dub remix of that tune that Brooklyn disco Argonauts Holy Ghost! have come up with, soon out in spanking 12” format thanks, again, to the good folks at Permanent Vacation: warm keyboards, glockenspiel/singalong quote straight off Chic’s I Want your Love and a smooth metronomic progression which comes across like DFA’s remix of Delia Gonzales & Gavin Russom’s Rise if only the alien intelligences inhabiting that mind-expanding trip decided to come down the disco for a dance with the sweaty humans, all of this culminating in a cosmic anthemic solo to boot, now this is what I call Beats from Space.

The Panther’s original was on their MySpace a while ago, not sure if it’s still there. The remix uses only the merest fragment (the awesome riff and a bit of vocal). Holy Ghost seem to specialise in turning in awesome remixes of bands I’m ambivalent about.

At Scion Radio 17 they’re doing it big in ’08.
Channel 5: Wax Poetics Radio
International man of mystery, Chest Rockwell aka Prince Paul, the Dew Doo Man himself cornered Wax Poetics Radio’s DJ Monk-One at a secret location in Gotham City recently to clear up a few things. Wax Poetics Radio asks you to tune in as Paul fries the wack Prince Paul imitators out there and wonders whether he ever really was a beat-digger. The dusty duo also touch such topics as children’s music and BMX dirt bikes before Paul is demanded to prove himself by laying down a Native Tongues retrospective DJ set. You have to witness this episode of Wax Poetics Radio! Truly classic!
