Sex and more

Vote for Obama Barack kids. Otherwise it’s the end.

Sub Pop’s single clubs scores again with hyperkinetic LA DIY ladypunk gang Mika Miko, who in their new 7, Sex Jazz, slow it down a bit, and spread it sideways the densest we’ve heard them yet, murky DIY peanut butter toast for yummy styles flip out. This jam couldn’t have a better title, Sex Jazz uh?, Well, makes total sense inasmuch it sounds a lot like Flipper’s death head anthem to lust, Sex Beat, welded into Huggy Bear’s riotous Her Jazz as undertaken in some claustrophobic sweaty post-punk forge, total synchronisation of screeching saxophones and shambolically funky percussion, Calvin Johnson must be proud, keep it up gals!

We first heard French glue wave desperadoes Yussuf Jerusalem at Art for Spastics, where else?

These accomplished practitioners of fucked up balladry a la via Sic Alps advance resolute across the narrow straits of the valley of death like enlightened pilgrims of the church of Lift to Experience. Kicking off their startling album, ‘A Heart Full of Sorrow‘ with a shriekfest named after Joan de Arc’s marshall & original Satanist psychopath Gilles de Rais adds a few brownie points in 20Jazzfunkgreats tally of infamy. Today we are leaving you with their melancholic cover version of queen of rock contender Marianne Faithful’s ‘With You in Mind’, love is a fuzzy thing, and this is where Yussuf Jerusalem get it absolutely right.
