Whatever We Want Records stealth releases more circular shapes of awesome in this humble beginning of ‘O9, slipping these under the radar discs into stores, only for them to be snapped up double quick by as many real music fans as eBay renegade charlatans. Food Of The Gods – Boy From Brazil

Food Of The Gods is Thomas Bullock of Map Of Africa/ARE Weapons, with Mito Hatori of Cibo Matto on vocals, plus a supergroup of percussive warriors including DJ Harvey. The percussive army beats out a whimsical and progressively lazy beat, melding Brazilian jungle-penthouse rhythms with plumes of pea-green weed smoke all dynamically lit from lighting rigs set up on the tropical beaches of Venus. Mito takes her vocal cue from the swaying Venusian palm trees and adds copious amounts of abstract diction so everything sounds fittingly in limbo.

2OJFG’s fave midnite horrordisco duke Steve Moore is back in his Zombi guise, what with the previously mentioned “Spirit Animal” LP released this week, and the “Split LP” with Maserati, both on Temporary Residence.

Maserati- Monoliths / Thieves

Maserati are the self-confessed “Pink Floyd for hipsters”, an onslaught of indie-kid killing beatniks void of vocals but overflowing with kinetic swathes of haunted forest sounds. If Zombi is the aural equivalent of serial killing spectres in grindhouse Italian horror films with minuscule budgets, then “Monoliths/Thieves” is the opening sequence to a southern US remake of “Tenebre”, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains where a troupe of undead lumberjacks in fine tailored flannel shirts and trapper hats are stalking innocent deer by the lurid technicolor moonlight.
