Brian’s Cali trip: Slimer Fetish
Here in Los Angeles there is a 5th season that is essentially like summer, but about 10000000000x hotter and shittier. It isn’t here quite yet, but I live in fear of it. It is kinda like living in Antarctica’s bizarro world opposite. Supposedly we’re in for another ice age soon, but I can’t help but think it is a fire age coming soon. So here is a tribute to LA and Cali bands that abandon ship. Good for you! The Smell is better in the press anyway. J/K :)
Originally hailing from Cincinnati, this collective’s driving force, one Mr. Robert Inhuman, has been living in LA a lot these past years. Although Realicide tours so much he is really a nomad. I mean, they left a few days ago on a 4 month tour. Insane! Anyway, this steel drum version of gabber, swallowed by hardcore punk will make any summer day explode. Good for picnics in body armor.

Child Pornography-Universal Mafia Part 2
Long time 20JFG readers are no strangers to the band that you dare not google search (guess what, I have.) So here is a true gem. Erin from CP was kinda enough to leak this demo from their next album. This will be rerecorded, but the iPhone recorded (literally) quality here has charmed the pants off of me. Now, only if these guys could decide if they live in sunny LA or foggy SF.

That is just what they did. After moving to Cali from the midwest, dropping an epic dark-psych LP on cali-rific Not Not Fun (that even made Thurston’s best of 08 list), and giving me high hopes that one band would single handedly raise the bar for noise rock in this fine state, Social Junk decided to uproot again and get the funk out of California. A sad say indeed, but at least they leave us with this incredible parting gift. They told me it is from their next album that will sound like Downward Spiral. I’m way into that.

So excited for some new Child P. I can think of few bands I’ve listened to for as long or as often. This has made my day.
