Higher State of Shazam

abecedarians

As the summer approaches, olden genetic memories of dancing around bonfires under the aegis of Dionysus, Bacchus and the like are resurrected in the thick blood that surges across the nicotine-clotted arteries of your spaced out 20jazzfunkgreatsters, what better way to celebrate this sunny day that thee Lord has beckoned upon us than listening to some euphoric progressive pop by LA weird punk outfit, Abecedarians as first listened in that place where all good things come to rest, Art for Spastics. This kind of thing, i.e. Oneida herding Unicorns, is what up and coming stalwarts of the bizarro boner wave such as Late of the Pier, Horrors or MGMT (Klaxons are lost for the cause I hear) strive for and I would hope might achieve if those record labels keep buying them psychedelic drugs so that they can continue chasing the neon dragon across the celestial fields in most Fitzcarraldian fashion.

Abecedarians- Benway’s Carnival

But why take drugs when you can slide inside Klaus Schulze’s portentous vortex, the higher state of consciousness equivalent of Event Horizon’s space drive decomposing your molecular structure and reconfiguring it into a delta glider of perfectly aerodynamic lines cutting across a liquid sky populated by  gothic holograms seductive and ominous, over a pulsating drone which is the heart of a nascent star, or the most punk-rock bassline I ever heard in a piece of modern composition, finally vanishing into a black hole of silence which is the death of everything, thank God for that replay button, the furiously caring embrace of this arithmetic bear is more addictive than Substance D, such capers!

Klaus Schulze- A Study for Terry Riley

This is included in Klaus Schulze ‘La Vie Electronique’ comp.

nice to see y’all getting on the abecedarians tip… very xxjfg musick they made. i suggest the epic desert ghost whirl of “soil” as another good point of ref.

That Schulze track is the most haunting thing I’ve heard in a long time. Don’t know whether it is fantastic or horrifying, but right now I’m feeling like I’m part of an old Russian movie. I guess that’s a fair outcome

I swear I heard somewhere that the USA’s first band to record for Factory Records, the Abecedarians, formed originally in Idaho….that slowly dripping wellspring of musical awesomeness which has otherwise eked out Septic Death and the Built to Spill family tree of bands. Kinda mindblowing to think about it. What would happen if you dropped “Benway’s Carnival” on a Boise dancefloor today? (Let alone 25 years ago!)
