Hello there, did you know that Sublime Frequencies, most passionate and caring explorers of the global underground have a tour going across the UK and Europe , with Omar Souleyman and Group Doueh playing live? It is happening in Brighton at St. George’s Church on Wednesday, we hear tickets are selling fast so you would be wise to get on with the program and get one, do not miss out.

Omar Souleyman’s Dabke 2020 is being released to coincide with the tour, and if upon listening to Lansob Sherek you don’t immediately delve into the internets most crazed and ravenous to hunt for a spot to see him live, or at least get hold of a copy of the compilation then, sir, you must be real skint, or you are not a worthy reader of this particular blog. Grrr, this comment might be slightly over the top, but then if you roam these pages often and understand what makes us tick, and share that love for all things psychedelic and banging, then it would be hard for me to understand you not being blown away by this Syrian killer, it’s fucking huge- the boom bapping beat & claps strike hard and sparse like a weird melange of Neptunes and Lil’ Louis, while the synthesisers stretch over vast expanses of a desert alive like the powerful wings of a G-Funk eagle and Omar does his thing like he was some sort of wise ultracool MCing djinn, I don’t have a clue about he’s going on about but his vocals are utterly transfixing, totally sick shit.

Now if only the show is like this:

Doueh hails from the Western Sahara, a region that has had more than its fair share of pain and struggle over the years. Doueh can play the guitar. I guess ‘playing the guitar’ is a super-lame way of describing what he does, just check out Cheyla Ya Haiuune, which closes his ‘Group Doueh: Guitar Music From The Western Sahara‘ album. This is Gang Gang Dance’s most beautiful summer dream, soulful, amazing and painful above and beyond the lovely melodies and coruscating guitar solos, it sounds like a whole community took part in its birth, and a powerful yet gentle wind brought it to us.
