vonhaze

Producing music in a ghost town in Southwest Michigan, Von Haze’s Sooner or Later is that unnerving moment of tense calm before a crimson storm, the camera zooms on Charles Bronson’s slow staring smoke eyes, eyes dead like a doll’s…Pause, splatter ensures in slo-mo, graphic, beautiful pervy detail.

Sonically we are in a place that might have existed if the early Human League had been more influenced by Gram Parsons than Donna Summer, drifting between the corrupted love ballads of Throbbing Gristle and SALEM’s lingering flame. Add the nicotine packed sex of (miss you) HTRK and we are there, waiting for the other shoe to drop while the particles of dust settle on the deserted streets of a ghost town, suddenly, the ominous click of the gun being cocked.

And then Boom.

We are lucky to have fwends everywhere- oh Japan, we heart you. It is your peoples that send us, from time to time, the loveliest of gifts. Enter Big Love, who have put out stuff by Salem, Ariel Pink and other twisted minstrels, the next batch coming up is killer, check this out (and buy the 7s which haven’t sold out!)

Cold Cave are the new thing, they come from Philadelphia and make power ballads with minimal components, you could even call it power minimal. We’ll stick with ‘Cold Cave Music’ for now. Some of their tunes sound like No Age after a PhD in forgotten technologies. Some others sound like The Knife blasting cocroaches in the kitchen with telepathic blasts of pop power. Today we leave you with ‘The Laurels of Erotomania’, which is total 80s euro luxury, you could play it between Ruth’s Polaroid Roman Photo and Anna’s Systems Breaking Down and everyone would go like, whoah, I didn’t know that one, the 7” must go for a gazillion dollars in eBay. And they would be wrong, but kind of right too because its sunglasses at night synthetic vogueing is absolutely priceless.

And let us stay in the 80s, but this time riding the night train while some bravos do push ups at the back, if you like Tom Tom Club style ghost funk and B-Boys beware style gal MC jams you’re in for a treat with Geneva Jacuzzi. Group Dynamics is Rammellzee’s kid gremlin sister, strutting wide-eyed across a creepy coney island family kid park at night, synthesisers beep from the house of mystery and undead proto b-boys battle each other warming up for the arrival of the dancing king from his niche in Neverland, Debbie Deb will read your palm for a wack rhyme, the future is out of focus but you like it like that.

TONIGHT- It’s So Bones’ London farewell before the dark master of body tech & jacked up skrunk flies over to NYC. Get down.

Meanwhile, 20JFG shall be playing some records with Dan down at the Yacht show in Brighton on Saturday- Audio, from 7ish or so. They have made one of the classiest noveau pop albums since forever, do not miss out.
