Euphoria Bump

Good friend of the 20JFG’s Ashley Marlowe truly is a man of diverse and excellent taste- He does kill it drumming for some of Brighton’s premier lo-fidelity scuzz combos. He introduced me to Harry Pussy, and is always throwing the sickest shit wave music my way whenever I show up at Edgeworld records, where he sits behind the counter like an owl watching the gates of the country of Good Things. But as he readily admits, and perhaps in a similar way to your 20JFG scribes, he balances this penchant for all things primal and chaotic with a love of the structured energy of good dance music, both as DJ, producer and, awesomely, record label runner, which brings us to Well Rounded Records, object of today’s feature.
Be ready to amaze.
Deadboy’s is the first reference in Well Rounded. And what a reference: throw the infectious metronomic shuffle of two step into sparse dubstep landscapes, feed it with abstract protein seeds and watch it grow strong. Variations in bass tone synthesise pristine emotions, Burial out of the mist, minimal techno on a short leash.
We leave you with U Cheated today, which smells, tastes and feels like a timeless gem of quintessentially British underground pop music brought from the future of funk by a laser eyed mystery dude. Perfect jam to speed through barren South London highways on the way to the best party ever, there can be no bigger praise.
Do buy the record here. Put your money where your hips are.

Listening to U Cheated made me think of Cajmere and Dajae’s Brighter Days- you could perfectly mix it into it, reverse the riddim and you are there, music from different places created with the same spirit. This is timeless stuff indeed, Chicago gospel deconstruction pumping from the speakers of a church inhabited by androids of black chrome percolating like crazy, a hands in the air moment that goes on for five minutes and a half, hey DJ, if you see me down at the party, drop this one and make my night.

[...] If you’re feeling the hyped garage style bass sounds of Jackmaster, Oneman and Joy Orbison then hotly tipped South London producer Deadboy is probably already on your radar. His debut three track EP dropped on Well Rounded last month and has all but sold out but there are some twelves available from here or here. Via 20jfg’s. [...]

So THAT’s what’s happened to Mr Marlowe – I’ve been posting all sorta old shit that he did back in the 1990s. Good to hear he’s still bang on form.

Have you guys heard the Lil Silva remix of Set Me Free by Drop The Lime? Got a serious early 90′s percussive house vibe going on. Really really big.
