Static cuts

Featuring:

Coil & Skeletal System

We visited the (quite amazing) debut EP from Skeletal System earlier this year and went on to stick it in our inaugural Altered Zones post.  Something about the best EP of the first six months of the year.  So, we’re pretty psyched here in the impenetrable towers of 20JFG to hear their follow up single Small Talk.  The band are once again putting it out for free through Bandcamp meaning their 2010 discography is looking pretty unfuckwithable right now.  If 20JFG has one Christmas wish it is that some kind soul presses these records on vinyl and delivers them to our many tentacled stocking pinned hopefully to our cyclopean obelisk.

Once again channelling the ghost of Galaxy 500, Static Eyes brings the melancholy guitar and up tempo if definitely downbeat synth flourishes.  Flashes of shoegaze and its post-rock descendants, moments of OMD synthpop and minimal computer music span decades to create a haunting, fin de siecle beauty.

Skeletal System – Static Eyes

After originally drafting this post we learned this morning of the untimely death of TG member and Coil founder Peter Christopherson.  He was 55.  It goes without saying that Sleazy’s music had a huge affect on our lives – the name of this blog is testament to that.  The Quietus has been covering this today and have included the comments of the other members of TG in their article, here.

We leave you with perhaps not the most representative piece of Coil but certainly a piece of music that suits today.
