As you know by now, uncle 20JFG likes to regularly dismantle this VR headset we call the entertainment industry, offering you an absurdist instruction manual on how not to wake up in a ditch wearing a Fratellis t-shirt, with 5 hours of your memory missing and a 2 Fast 2 Furious DVD in your back pocket (this actually happened to us once).
It concerns us to see people worrying about what they like, or worse, what think they should like. Marketing is powerful and it is clever, and in an immersive world where everything becomes a marketing concept quicker than your cynicism gland can react, it’s very easy to forget why we make and listen to music.
To cut through the crap you don’t need a PHd in Musicology. Every one of us is equipped with a nervous system. Every one of is equipped with a heart, and to know if you truly like something, you just have to look there. Because if the maker looked in the same place while doing so, you’ll find it in yours.
What gets 20JFG out of bed in the morning are these unique soul broadcasts. That indescribable combination of personal expression and atmosphere we know only as ‘the vibe’.

Few people understand this better than Beautiful Swimmers.
Teengirl Fantasy – Cheaters (Beautiful Swimmers’ Shoulda Known Remix)
This has already been blogged by every blog and his dog, but we’re bringing it to you today not only because;
- It rules
- Teengirl Fantasy played a splendid show for us recently in Berlin
- Maxmillion Dunbar from Beautiful Swimmers also has a new unbloggable 12 out very soon, more on that in a sec.
- Oh, and the vinyl looks purdy on the blog. Yes, we are that shallow.
20JFG readers and those who moonwalk the blogosphere will be super familiar with the original, so no need for us to redraw their schematic of youthful euphoria. The Swimmers have done a much better job, refabricating it into a sequined rope bridge which stretches across a shimmering chasm of evanescent. As previously mentioned, Max D also has a new record out this month ‘Max Tracks for World Peace’ - with the track Ballroom contained therein being a 500 year love affair between Manuel Göttsching, Jean Luc Ponty and Speedy J – i.e. one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever heard.
The Teengirl Fantasy remix 12 is out right now on Hivern Discs. Maxmillion’s new solo effort ‘Max Tracks for World Peace’ is out next week on Future Times.
Gatto’s pick
I once played this at a 10am at a party where everyone had taken Peyote. TOTAL POPLAR TELEPATHY VIBES.
This poor bugger got his lights snuffed out by terrible Teutonic booze hounds.
Epilogue -
This post is tagged with Gatto Fritto Week Hivern Discs
It is so awesome that you included a Wolfgang Riechmann track in your post. “Wunderbar” is one of the greatest records I’ve ever heard.
