Anthemic cosmic synth French androids Space are getting re-released and redone in a 12’’ released by Nang. The choice of the bunch is, in our honest opinion, the remix delivered by master of mist and fuzz Time and Space Machine, who transforms the original into one of the nicest homages that Cerrone ever received, full bodied percussive psychedelic disco that will make you feel like you were flying across Gandaharian alienscapes on the back of a majestic red dragon dodging sensory rays straight from the pheromone secreting glands of the deranged masterbrain. Lush.

Space- Carry on, Turn me On (The Time and Space Machine Remix)

I’m a Cliche are in top form, and Azari & III are the best thing that happened to the dancefloor since Vitalic (OK Cowboy) grafted some experimental pop spikes into the back of the euro techno beast.

After the uplifting primeval acid styles of Hungry for the Power and Reckless for your Love, She’s an Illusion keeps it pumping muscular, but from a different angle- Paranoid eurobassline, killer synth refrain and enough weird sounds to keep those who miss the electronic body antics of Smith and Hack going for a couple of months, imagine Giorgio Moroder’s pink Alfa Romeo being crushed by the jaws of an industrial grinder, crumpled metal box salvaged for sharp blades and blunt truncheons by a tribe of new romantic amazons who dwell in the red corners of the sleazedisco. Let the hunt begin.

Azari & III- She’s an Illusion

Find it included in the Hungry for the Power EP. We’ve got more I’m a Cliche stuff coming up shortly, keep your ears peeled.

And just because we are in an exalted mood, here you have the most excellent ‘Oh Monorail!’ from Pink Skull’s new album in 20JFG fave and oldest friends NYC label IGETRVNG, Endless Bummer. This is a Tigersushi style adventure, don’t get coherence get in the way of taste and feeling- some times it’s just beautiful pop peppered with esoteric references the music places you in a zone strange enough to get, and dance to as well, some others it sounds like Aphrodite’s Child following on the steps of Klaus Kinski down wild Bolivian rainforests. There’s more, and it’s always great.

Oh Monorail is more of the former, a lovely nugget of rumbling stargaze purple disco which is up there with DFA’s finest in what refers to modern updates of awesome glam music. You won’t be able to get it out of your head.

In it’s original incarnation “Die Slow” is an epic blast of serrated tekno shards that rip through neo industrial noise light fields with maximum metallic grind. A truly take no prisoners proposition. In the silvery hands of those awesome New Jersey italo exorcists, Pink Stallone, what was once blunt and brutal, a futuristic monolith coated in glittering grime is now transformed and remoulded into a golden Moroderesque orb floating through elysian pastures haunted by the elegiac androgynous tones of Jake Duzsik echoing from high above pastel cumulonibus clouds that burst with tearjerking balearic bliss-disco droplets.

HEALTH – Die Slow (Pink Stallone Remix)

For those of you who happen to dwell in New York City, HEALTH will be playing a show at the Bowery Ballroom with the mindmelting support of Pictureplane and Tanlines. Needless to say this particular XXJFG brother will be in attendance waiting for his eardrums to be ritually shredded in the best possible way.

Still stuck in NYC, XXJFG has teamed up with our eternal mancrush over at True Panther (FYI – pick up the kila new Girl’s album which came out yesterday) to bring you Society which commences next Tuesday at Arrow Bar in Manhattan. DJ Kingdom, the ddarkk bass lord and overall walking, robo-diva fever dream will be DJing a slot which will undoubtedly inspire some broken bones. We also have Brooklyn based 2-piece Blondes playing live, the idea of which has me foaming at the mouth, such is the tru magik of their music. Don’t believe me? Then drown yourself in the majesty of “Moondance”, a mindblowing experience which is akin to sitting solitarily atop a giant hill that overlooks a neon splashed future metropolis immersed in otherwordly baby blue mists, and watching as those holographic skyscraping structures crumble into undulating waves of pixeldust before your very eyes.

Blondes – Moondance

Finally we’re more than a little bit psyched to present to you this epic new mix that was put together especially for yours truly by those modern day purveyors of sublime Kevin Saunderson style ghost-rave and the creators of one of this year’s stone cold future classics, Azari & III. It’s a kaleidoscopic acid fantasia. N-Joy.

Azari & III already made one of our favourite tunes of the year with the growling sexual menace of their malfunctioning, Voguing android, machine anthem, “Hungry For The Power”, and they continue to astound us with their latest high precision dancefloor killer in the making.

Around these parts anyone who sees fit to unleash the ghosts of chicago house upon unassuming night time marauders like the E.P.A. jerk who unwittingly shuts down the Ghostbuster’s spirit containment grid and lets loose a supernatural storm of activity upon NYC, is more than fine by us. Just imagine that grizzled old corpse in the taxi driver’s seat is in fact the grizzled old corpse of Hercules about to whisk you away into the black of the night for the cocaine joyride of your life, and the glowing blue gangling monstrosity that emerges from the subway in a flurry of screams and panic is the spirit of Ralphi Rosario returned to console all the fierce, yet sad eyed bubble divas in the world. Just know that somewhere in Vancouver luminescent beams of light are being projected through the roof of a long abandoned warehouse, still strong with the smell of dancing sweat and poppers, releasing these orbs of perfect jack-house energy into the atmosphere., and that’s a very good thing.

Azari & III – Reckless (With Your Love)

Continuing on with the good vibes, and on familiar future-Argento pool party territory we find ourselves hidden behind ruby velvet curtains gazing onwards with curiosity and abject horror at a group of semi robotic, re-animated eurotrash witches, all decked out in poison sleek, vintage black Gucci, snorting red mystery powders off of slabs of pure gold engraved with an indecipherable ancient scripture as they sway and cavort and absorb the pagan party atmosphere, spines tingling, aroused by the felt presence of their High Queen’s spirit, unseen, but lingering in the air waiting to be reborn, at the kind of gathering you would expect to find something like the Antoni Maiovvi’s Carpenter sex-scene, bloodied dagger disco sounds to be on inevitable heavy rotation. Anyone who can claim to having conceived their new album as the soundtrack to a nonexistent 1983 Italian sci-fi giallo starring Barbara Cupisti and Ian McCulloch surely deserves their place there?

Antoni Maiovvi – The Chase: Part 1

It’s the Loop festival this weekend in Brighton.

As well as featuring artists like Joakim, Feaver Ray, Telepathe, Fujiya & Miyagi, The Juan Maclean and lots of your favourite bands Loop also incorporates digital arts, this year with help from the people of onedotzero.

ondotzero’s original ICA shows were the thing to be in for more cutting edge videos. They curated the best of computer generated work when the internet still wasn’t up to streaming video, and it was a place you could go and see stuff that was maybe only shown on MTV2′s 120minutes.

The more abstract stuff that wasn’t a commission, you’d be hard pressed to find it accessible outside a gallery show.

This years Loop audio-visual content is all programmed in conjunction with onedotzero.

So it’s looking like a nice weekend for a trip to the seaside plus some great bands and multimedia fun. See you there!

Joan Collins’ corpse crawls through our doorway, browned blood caked to her sheer cheekbones and flecked across her powder blue eye-shadow. She tells of torturous journeys of escape, disguised as a white feather caught in the twiggy hair of the ferryman on the river Styx. We were surprised she was in Hell too, but then we saw “The Stud” and realised why. So, just as we think our days are numbered and our brains are chow for the high class Hollywood undead, she fires up our computer and types in some URLs before slithering back into the cold dark.

Parallels – Reservoir

We are one step ahead of old Joan though, as Parallels have been on our radar since their arrival on MySpace two years ago. Back then they were a sinister vocodered Atari nightmare, the demons to IDIB’s angelic Mirage. The sinister element happily remains, but now the vocoder is vanquished by the desolately serene vocals of Holly Dodson, who spirits away the essence of Kate Bush and locks it away in a labyrinthine fortress made of circuit boards, black mist and marbled perspex.

“Reservoir” ticks all the nu-’80s boxes of awesome, with melancholy vocals from Holly amidst bleeding-heart synth washes, but there is an air of authenticity that breezes through the track that is only glimpsed at on most of the new wave of New Wave who mostly, if not all, are born on MySpace. It even seems wrong to make you listen to it as an mp3 – if we could send you all a cassette and any one of these to play it on then that would be ideal.

Visual evidence:

Are you bored of bands having crystals in their name yet? Joan’s eternally damned spirit just loves Crystal Antlers, Crystal Castles, Crystal Stilts, Twin Crystals et al, and now she has fixed her glassy yellow demon eyes on Crystal. Crystal are a Tokyo-based band of musicians and designers with a new 12″ on Institubes, featuring a sound that is pummelled into an object with a gleaming smooth surface by enough bombastic ’80s syndrums to level club Tech Noir. The stadium beats of “Initiative!”

Crystal – Initiative!

“Flight Of The Navigator” dawn-escape synths join together with Depeche Mode “People Are People” drums that chop all things into a fine crystalline mist breathed in by body-popping bots that shreds through metallic oesophaguses inducing gastro-oil meltdowns, the black liquid spewed forth from pained metal faces in slow motion once the moonbase synths phase in at the 1.24 mark.

From within the downcast shadows of Tubbs and Crockett, on the rare occasion that they didn’t catch the latest Columbian drugs baron, comes the sound of house music gone bad: Azari & III.

In these chambers of darkened warehouses chopped into a surreal construction of totemic mazes, the dry ice staccato beats awaken all kinds of beasts of vice, some suited and sprayed with cologne, some red-eyed and raw from the kill. The Moon renders all imagery in black and blue as the desecrated graves of Landlord, Armando, Hercules and Lil’ Louis break open to release the spectres of Chicago house:

Azari & III – Hungry For The Power

This very track will appear on the “Moments Of A Crisis” compilation on I’m A Cliché, where the streets of Paris will shift into the same maze-like schism once someone presses play.

(image: TommyBoy)

Last on Joan’s URL death list is Ilija Rudman, who’s new 12″, “In Motion”, is released on Maellstrom’s label, Solardisco (that Joan, she knows us all too well).

Ilija Rudman – In Motion

“In Motion”, with slowly flaring synth lines and cosmopolitan Euro beats, conjures the joyous images of swimming pools in the summer, with palm trees and desert vistas in the background, lotharios and their various companions floating on the cool and clear waters, happy in the knowledge that the moneys still rolling in, the jet is being prepped for the journey to the next party and the valet has parked the ferrari in the shade and out of the sun.
