I already said this somewhere else, but having spent a whole morning raking my cowering brain to find new words to express these extreme feelings, I am afraid I shall have to repeat myself, because you wouldn’t want me to collapse, body awaiting wretched for my beloved flatmates to find lying in a puddle of crimson and pink like the final confrontations at Scanners. would you? You so would, you bastards. Alas, I won’t give you the pleasure, not yet, and here we go again:

When I am old I shall look back to the day when I saw Oneida at Primavera Sound 09 from the first row, blasted, I shall sit my mutant offspring in my knees and ask them to lick the acid tears running down my emaciated cheeks, so they can trip on mighty visions of progressive zealots taking Barcelona’s heavens by storm. They are releasing a new album, ‘Rated O’, comprised of three parts the second of which this begins, and how, by conjuring images of electric maelstroms and pillars of power collapsing upon each other, picture Turner’s rabidest seas and picture mighty Thor’s little helpers hovering over nature as it does its thing, brandishing the tools of the trade of those who demolish planets in search of psychedelic gold. They strike a rich vein, and our faces are illuminated by the light to become devilish kabuki masks that flash grotesque grimaces of utter joy. The legend continues, step into the path.

Oneida- The River

But there’s always calm after the storm, Ganglians sprawl on the lotus position over wet sands of a beach destination of the pilgrimage of debris, bundles of letters in faded ink washing this shore like a flock of paper pigeons, and so they play their sad and beautiful country music while the sun punches holes in a tattered wall of purple clouds. We told you about them a while ago, now they have a very nice 12 and Monster Head Room, the album whence this comes out on Woodsist, lovely west coast laid back melancholy strutting which is bound to take over the world like only pretty music can.

We have been a bit bad lately, what with all the joyous disco, synthetic fear and versicolor reconstructed pop, we have perhaps neglected the other leg supporting the ‘it’s so not art’ bed where your 20jazzfunkgreats gaunt ghouls wallow, roll and frolic frenzied like brain fried commuters crashing onwards in a southern rail carriage destined towards the paradoxical event horizon of a Odyssey 2001 style stroboscopic finale. Of course, we mean the disjointed sonic convolutions of all those DIY whatever wave kids out there who forever keep us on our toes with the fury of their stomping delivery and the wailing of their mangled melodies, here you have some choice morsels of such kind with which we hope you’ll choke on to asphyxiate tres hardcore.

It is with excited giggles that we welcome the first reference of James and Andy’s ‘Sex is Disgusting‘ label. We are talking about two gentlemen whose excellent musical taste, good-natured bon-homie and love for keeping it real could only conduce to an outcome as glorious such as this one, i.e. a 7” by Human Hair which has been on repeat in the turntable since it landed in our eager and slightly trembling hands, true beginning of what we know will be a source of joy in days to come.

How totally amaze to behold Human Hair as they crack a black anvil of vintage Siltbreeze/S-S/Touch& Go vinyl with mighty axe forged in that misanthropic hell of blood-shot eyes and discarded beer bottles where Flipper rest forever burping in a blurry stupor of delirium and hate, which obviously makes us think of the opening of Conan the Barbarian, if only it had been shot with crappy digital camera in the roof of a trashed house party as the sun rises over the evil suburbs of London in a most funereal and epic way. This is a rather limited edition affair, you should totally get a copy while you can via <a href="We have been a bit bad lately, what with all the joyous disco, synthetic fear and versicolor reconstructed pop, we have perhaps neglected the other leg supporting the 'it's so not art' bed where your 20jazzfunkgreats gaunt ghouls wallow, roll and frolic frenzied like brainfried commuters crashing onwards in a southern rail carriage destined towards the paradoxical event horizon of a Odyssey 2001 style stroboscopic finale.
Pillow Talk bitch slap us with drum machines that snap like the jaws of pinhead alligators, gory basslines, insectoid cackling and their general attitude, they are Quintron’s kid brother chewing his arm off to escape from the damp basement where he was left behind when the family decided to move for poppier pastures, a severely deformed misfit living in the wilderness, stealing from hick shacks, revelling in his primal urges, killing Bambi and raping its corpse. There is something seriously wrong with them, that ‘video game soundtrack orchestrated by a Baader Meinhoff spin-off cell whose members were dropped from the cradle one time too many when they were babies’ approach to ‘composition. That whole ‘Unga Wunga’ thing. They are awesome, we love them.

Pillow Talk- Teenage Shut-In

Ah the joyous life of the music aficionado, forever spent reminding over-eager youths of how such and such band is little more than a doppelgänger of such and such band that came before, as if the history of the medium hadn’t been scribbled through constant homage, appropriation and outright theft, it doesn’t matter to us whether a band wears their influences in their sleeves, and you can’t argue much when they have tattooed them in their fists, which they then use in a most feisty way to pummel us into oblivion/submission. It is of course Royal Trux who float in the air like a sickly ectoplasm, grinning most wicked and weasely as BRIDEZ get on with the proceedings, muddy water stompgazing for you to twitch, greatly satisfying. We hear Sex is Disgusting shall be putting them on in Brighton, we will keep you posted about this. In the meanwhile, enjoy their 7” released by SF’s World Famous Industries.

Bridez- Rolling Stoned

There seems to be a nascent sub-genre of codeine balladry burrowing inside the chest cavity of the Glue Wave Monster, Sic Alps and Eat Skulls are the best example, the 7” you need to to get your mitts on is ‘The World is Lousy with Ideas Vol. 7′ (not gonna happen) and the blueprint is perhaps ‘Girl’ by the Electric Eels. Ganglians hail from that place of joy under the benevolent sonic umbrella of Freeform KVDS and most particularly one DJ Rick which is Sacramento, and with Lost Words, included in their split 7 with Eat Skulls they have most definitely blown yours truly away. Now here you have a soothing piece of sunkissed 60s vibes swirling in the salty currents of the Pacific, a perfect pop nugget that could have well been stolen from a hidden vault where forgotten out-takes from the Beach Boy’s darkest era hide, the culprit is an Ariel Pink-style sorcerer absolute master of echo and shadow, watch him deliver the spell. This one is a keeper that will come to haunt the romantic mixtapes you record for your sweet-heart in times to come, again and again. And when a song does that, you know it’s something special.

It’s happening again this Saturday- It tends to be carnage.

Some 13 Monsters crew shall be DJing at the Ponytail show at Audio. And if in London, go to see Fucked Up, Sex is Disgusting will be DJing there.
