At the point called birth, the fetus leaves the womb and becomes a baby. The umbilical chord is cut and life is no longer sustained through direct biological freeloading. A new kind of freeloading begins of course, just yet another in long line of awesome actions that continue through moving back home after college. That is besides the point though. Bottom line, there comes a point, destined by DNA/nature/divine creation/whatever that the individual can no longer rely on a mainline to mother.
Perhaps the BP disaster is the water breaking for humanity. It is easy to envision all the oceans turning black, eventually coating the the land in oily rain as well. A fantastic goth ending to everything. Or maybe this is our birth. Time to cut the chord and find a way to live by our own means. Get a job at the solar factory and just come home on weekends to do laundry.
In a time known as the 90’s, people known as rappers claimed that the East coast and West coast could never work together. Sound to me like a bunch of people afraid to leave their coastal wombs. I think money or the false promise of fame ended that feud, but there is no time for that now. What we do got here are two artists that have broken their chords from the coasts and come together to make some hyped up extinction rock. If you take the sample at the beginning seriously, it has something to do with apathy. Hopefully to do with the shattering of it. Considering all the touring that Nero’s Day At Disneyland and Mincemeat or Tenspeed do, I think that is a fair guess.
At an outpost in the center of of North America there are a lot of hardships. Landlocked, dust bowled, tornado washed, at least for the internet, culture starved, it was only the truly brave few that made art on the edge of possibility. But it is this dismal circumstances that often drive creativity to its true and most amazing extremes. Here are a group of true rebels that I saw HEALTH pledge allegiance to when they played in LA. Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk are the shining example that the best way to transcend space and time is to simply be yourself. The best yourself you can be. So here is to making it happen!
Just to be open minded, lets give the total nihilists a chance to speak too. San Diego, a place apparently known for sunshine, wild animals, and millennialist conspiracy is also the home of DOOMSTAR! (With the mandatory exclamation mark, do I still put a period at the end of that sentence?) Anyway, it is not that they hate everything. In fact, they love making garage pop. But ask them what is just around the corner for humanity and they won’t pull any punches. It is time for the final dance, so get your partner and shake it like it is 1999 and Y2K is actually real.
BTW, I think we killed mom:
