Shrill House

Featuring:

Leno Lovecraft & MVSCLZ

Dance music was never supposed to be classy. Nevermind Italo.

mvsclz

MVSCLZ’ music sounds as if, knowing everything he knows now, Michael Mann travelled in his Testarossa space machine back to 80s Miami, shacked up in a minimalistic condominium, left keys, wallet and pocket change configured in an esoteric arrangement over a mantelpiece of blinding white, took off his Calvin Klein socks and placed them inside the white loafers, removed the plastic covers of a Le Corbusier sofa, sat on it and then methodically proceeded to shoot a large dose of mass pharma conglomerate quality liquid LSD into his eyeball. And then, just as he was coming up, he went clubbing to the craziest club in town.

Yarr. Which is a bit like the equivalent of The Call of Cthulhu but with all those impossible angles covered in pink neon, and crazy gay men dancing on top of the cyclopean structures. Pure monster madness delirium, everything happens all at once across at least 7 alternative yet intersecting space time planes of crass unhinged gloriously pumped up italo frenzy.

We wish Michael had a 4-seater.

MVSCLZ- All Big Men Come Out in the Summertime

lenolovecraft

Leno Lovecraft’s Pogon is the apex of Bobby Orlando’s most socially responsible nightmare, what have I done, he asks himself twitching in bed, I have unleashed a thousand sleazy machinesounds upon the world so that decades from now, crazy kids from New Zealand can use cheaply available technologies to produce binary monsters which are the switchblade touting teenage punk pinhead to stoned cosmic disco grandpa. Egad, it is no classy affair this one, nope, it is as far away as you could get from the illuminated attitudes of all our beloved disco nerds out there, no, this is a dark, brutal and shrill affair organised around a couple of muscular synth riffs with so much treble you fear they are going to fracture into shards of crystal precipitating with lethal precision through your eye, cerebelum, vertebrae and into the floor like this was the beginning of Suspiria, only sweatier.

Which might well be truer to the spirit of the whole affair than other, more measured and thoughtful approaches.

Leno Lovecraft- Pogon

Pogon is included in ‘Alien Sex Juice’, which will be coming out on the 15th of December, just on time for your debauched Christmas party you lucky bastards.

thanks as ever for your magnanimous musical dollopings and vibrant verbosity. The Leno Lovecraft link etc seems a bit crook.

Throwing Crystal Shapes

Featuring:

Lindstrom & Munch Munch

Inside the crystal dome of the snowglobe that the Gods shake with childish abandon rises a pyramid of Jodorowsky tarot cards, at whose top you will find your animated 20jazzfunkgreats miniatures dancing in the midst of the blizzard, Christmas is coming and we shall enjoy it in our own special ways. Let the pagan celebrations begin.

munchmunch

Munch Munch rule hard. We have been going on about them for years now, and are happy to announce that they will finally be releasing an album soon, huzzah! There is also a 7” coming out in Fear and Records, and Cyclorama is included in it.

And what is Cyclorama?

Perhaps the last 20JFG pop hit of the year,  an exhilarating sleigh ride down pixelated hills- think 3D Mario Kart if Shigeru Miyamoto was into the United States of America, a odyssey of progressive verticality dodging glittering pines and befuddled badgers, unexpected drop down a cliff, inertia propels us into the pure air for a moment of perfect quiet when we stare at the vast vistas of the psychedelic snow country these guys have lovingly drawn for us, but gravity rules here too, or so she thinks that uppity bitch, because as we start precipitating into the vertigo vortex, a slender unicorn picks us up and sends us soaring into the sky to the sounds of a perfect melody, pastoral scene of absolute euphoria decorating a t-shirt we wear under our skin and shines into our eyes.

Munch Munch- Cyclorama

And check out the video here.

Silverpines

I stumbled upon Silver Pines across the lands of the Interwebs, and the freezing wind of their beautiful stomp made my eyes melt and my throat ululate in that shriek which is the animal spirits of the 20Jazzfunkgreats way of communicating to the world just how cool things can get some times

You know how Little Claw represent mother nature at their Khali the merciless gnarliest, a pack of hungry wolves chasing a deer across forsaken landscapes, sacrifices in the altar of life which get paid in blood? Well, Timefather is the other side of the coin, limpid winter sun rays shining upon a litter of cubs as the awake in their bed of branches and bones, exploding into a million glimmers upon the drops of dew that pelt their fur, powerful music written in the tracks criss crossing the snowed-upon skin of the Earth. Very powerful stuff.

Silver Pines- Timefather

Timefather is included in the Forces EP, which you can get from Light Lodge. Here you have the video for Invitation to Surf, included in a soon to be released 7, also on Light Lodge. *this is brilliant*

Lindstrom

And how is this for a bonus? Lindstrom has produced a 40 minutes long version of Little Drummer Boy for Rough Trade, which you can get here. Rough Trade have kindly sent us a shorter edit of this, and it is totally amaze. It sounds as if Wendy Carlos had produced the soundtrack for the psychedelic toys that haunt Tetsuo in Akira to begin their ominous procession to a crystal manger where a laser-eyed baby jesus await for their tribute, levitating over his cradle. God wouldn’t have it any other way.

  5. man, that lindstrom drummer boy experiment would be really great if he would have thrown in the rest of the bass notes, you know how the bottom changes halfway through the melody? too bad about that.

The Last Hunter

Bronnt_Industries_Kapital_Hard_For_Justice_Get_Physical

Knights of Vipco struts through its martial streets, the red dawn poking through unforgiving edifices.  Unpeturbed by the increasing use of dutch angles to track it’s progress and oblivious to the Bernard Herman Noir-horms that encircle it like sirens…it rounds a corner and runs straight into the pulsating Old God of euphoric 8-bit title music.  At which point 20JFG falls head over heels in love.

Bronnt Industries Kapital – Knights of Vipco

Bronnt Industries Kapital is Guy Bartell’s  post-millennial outlet for much wonderful music.  Not least a bespoke score for the proto-exploitation silent Haxan.  He’s also got a remix on the same ΤΗΞ LΔΖΣ 12″ as the previously posted Steve Moore.  This track is from his latest album Hard For Justice which you can buy here.

factoryfloor

Factory Floor seem to have been on an endless mutation for the last few years, now settled on the rigid form of a three piece, they still exist in the same world of battered This Heat reissues and reverb made of concrete and rust.  Only now, with the addition of Suicide covering Nik Void they’ve been infused with the totemic heart of Neubaten and the feet of Berghain‘s throbbing hordes.

Anyone who was lucky to see them confound and beguile during their summer outing with The Horrors, or catch their Offset show, will have some sense of just how gloriously brutal this all is live.  Not for them some imperfect attempt to wrench techno into a bastard live form.  These are rhythmic hymns in the church of pagan machine gods.  Vicious, cold, beautiful.

If you’re wondering when to start praying: it’s at 1:47.

Factory Floor – Lying

Bonus video of the day is for Cold Pumas’ Jela.  The first release on Hungry For Power, the label some of 20JFG run (we may have mentioned this).  Keeping it in the family, one of your 20JFGers directed/shot/edited this too.

Cold Pumas – Jela from Dan Nixon on Vimeo.

Friday bonus event!  One or more of your 20JFG may well be glimpsed in the darkness at the ever excellent Cocadisco this Saturday.  But don’t let put you off.

  4. December 2009 & the 2012 future shadow from the transcendental object at the end of time grows in dimension and shade. To paraphrase Crass or should that be to para-phase, its now 322012ANOK4U2OK & 20JFG does it again and tunes me into two of the best tracks of all year. The frequencies BIK hit seem to dissolve the binary oppositions of naked fear and oceanic bliss while Factory Floor sounds exactly what would happen if Siouxsie Sioux, Klaus Dinger & The Normal were shut in a room for thirty days and forcefed 2CB..the dark side of the ecstatic..keep it coming..
